COACH GONZO

Coach title and years loaded from custom fields

He walked into Fontana High School and inherited a program that had gone 0-9. Most coaches would have seen a rebuilding project. Coach Gonzo saw an opportunity — and he got to work. Twenty years of coaching experience at every level, from youth to college, all leading to this moment: bringing Fohi back to where it belongs.

The turnaround has been nothing short of relentless. From a winless season to three playoff appearances — including back-to-back postseason runs — Gonzo didn’t just fix a football team. He rebuilt a culture. The weight room got loud again. The hallways got proud again. Fontana High School football became a name that the Skyline League respects.

A St. Paul product who remembers going to war with the Steelers as a kid, Gonzo came to Fohi with a mission: restore the spirit, the toughness, and the smash-mouth identity this program was built on. He runs the pistol wing formation and he runs the ball down your throat — old school, physical, unapologetic. That’s Fontana football.

“I want to bring back the spirit, the work ethic, and the toughness of what Fohi was. This program isn’t being rebuilt — it’s being reclaimed.”
